Guest Spotlight: “I Am 74 Years Old and Just Did My First Semi-Nude Photoshoot”

“Real confidence comes from gratitude. I am grateful for what my body has done for me… this photoshoot allowed me to feel not just gratitude but liberation.”

 

It was partially the strong female influences in Blanca’s life that gave her the courage to try her first semi-nude photoshoot. “My mother and aunt were very strong; maybe that’s how I got so strong in life, too. They helped me with that - being strong for myself.” W

hen asked if her mother would have been interested in participating in the Nuovo Self-Love shoot if she were here, she explained how the previous generation was even more controlled when it came to women’s bodies. “My grandparents were from Spain, both of them passed away, and my mother was left in a convent until she was 27.” Because of this, Blanca’s mother had a more restricted view of her own body.

“Even when I was younger, nudity was totally prohibited.” She noted with a sense of apprehension. “And now,” she explained, “I still have people who tell me ‘I’m too old to do this kind of thing’. But, the biggest lesson I have learned in my life is to be myself and do things for me, not because society says I should.”

Blanca is 74 years old and spends her days focused on living in the present moment in Miami, Florida. She has taken a stand to live her life on her own terms. “I am not a person that is [focused on] my imperfections,” she notes. “

My advice to my younger self would be to enjoy your body, what you can do, and take time to appreciate what you have around you. You don’t have to have an excellent body to be happy; you can be happy in the body you were given, and that is what makes it excellent.” 

Blanca observes the change that has occurred with time surrounding the perception of female nudity. She celebrates how women now have avenues to love their skin and bodies in a safe and comforting way, as she experienced at Nuovo.

“When I saw the final Nuovo photos, I felt overwhelmed by how beautiful they turned out and also so proud of myself.” Her experience is one that she was excited to share - and an important lesson to others interested in reclaiming their bodies and living life on their terms.

She goes on to consider that, with age, you understand that the true meaning of confidence is not limited to how you look. “I don’t care if I physically look different than I do now when I am 80, I will still feel this confidence because I still feel gratitude towards myself and my body.” With women-only staff, the team at Nuovo encourages all women to participate in the Self-Love photoshoot experience as a way to build confidence and gratitude within themselves. 

“My husband passed away a year ago and he always celebrated me and my body.” She goes on to mention that choosing someone who supports you no matter what you look like is one of the most important acts of self-love. “He would have loved that I did this photoshoot. I just know it. It was a way to think of him too.”

Her experience is a lesson to all that, no matter what age you are, you can still take time to love and appreciate the body that allows you to wake up and enjoy the beauty of the present moment.

“I would recommend the Nuovo semi-nude photoshoot to everyone. It was such a good experience and I really feel different now that I have done it. I feel liberated.”
